Dear Editor,
I would like to thank Ms. Sonya Forbes for her Letter to the Editor in last week’s issue of the Times. Communication is extremely important in every community, and I appreciate that Ms. Forbes took the time to offer her thoughts. As the author of the article she was responding to, I felt obliged to visit her concerns.
I have spoken extensively with both the President and Vice-President of the Cache Chamber of Commerce and feel I can shed some light on the issues she wrote about.
I’m certain there must have been some misunderstanding concerning Mr. Burk’s opening comments, as he has been nothing less than openly enthusiastic about the amount of participation from area business and the community in the golf tournament. The only regret he has expressed is that there was not a full compliment of golfers playing in the tournament.
The flyers did state that there was a 22 team minimum in order to pay out the $500 First Place Prize. However, I have been assured that all of the monies from the golfer’s entry fees were paid back out to the golfers who placed.
The “Woman’s Division” was a last minute decision, and one meant to honor the only all female team to enter the tournament. Since there seems to be an interest in such a division, perhaps there will be one in next year’s tournament. Thank-you Ms. Forbes for the suggestion.
This was the first year of the tournament, and so naturally there will be lessons learned and changes made to make next year’s tournament even better.
Ms. Forbes quoted Mr. Burk as saying, “This is the First Annual Tournament and maybe the last.” I’ve asked Mr. Burk about this and he has assured me that he meant the comment to be a humorous one.
I hope I have answered Ms. Forbes concerns in regard to the Golf Tournament.
On personal note, and different subject, I’d like to thank Mayor Nolan Watson for bringing water to those of us who were working to clean up the old Trading Post site (located on the south end of town). Although we had already brought our own water, it was thoughtful and kind of him to bring us cold water. It is said the gift is in the thought, and the thought was appreciated.
Finally, I’ve been posting my letters to the editor on the blog at http://www.cachok.com. Apparently this has caused some confusion and I’d like to clear that up. Cacheok.com is not, and I repeat is not, the Cache Chamber of Commerce website. It is an independently owned website with the stated purpose of bringing information about Cache. My reason for posting there is to encourage communication. And it has to some degree worked, although some have written their comments in the guest book, rather than posting them on the blog. As I stated at the beginning of this letter, it is extremely important that communities have open communications. – Reverend Jerry Randall
